The Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience is excited to share that our commitment to supporting mentors of human trafficking survivors has continued to grow. On October 3rd, 2024, Dr. Carrie Yeager led a training session for 21 dedicated mentors, focusing on the crucial themes of values, self-reflection, and the development of value-based goals.

During this training, mentors explored the significance of understanding personal values and how they can guide both mentors and their mentees in setting meaningful, achievable goals. Additionally, Dr. Yeager introduced practical tools designed to enhance self-efficacy in mentees, which are essential for their journey toward empowerment and success. These tools included:

  • Mastery: Gaining confidence through skill-building and accomplishments.
  • Modeling: Learning through observation of others who have successfully navigated similar challenges.
  • Verbal Persuasion: The power of encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Relaxation: Techniques to manage stress and improve focus, aiding in goal achievement.

This training was designed to equip mentors of human trafficking survivors with the essential resources needed to effectively inspire and support the individuals they serve. By fostering these skills and insights, we aim to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of survivors, guiding them toward a brighter and more empowered future.

As part of our mission, we are proud to collaborate with organizations like Reclaiming Hope, which provides additional resources and support tailored specifically for survivors of human trafficking. Reclaiming Hope offers a safe space for healing, emphasizing the importance of community and connection. Their programs focus on reclaiming personal agency and fostering resilience, enabling survivors to envision and pursue new possibilities for their lives.

By combining our efforts with local organizations like Reclaiming Hope, we hope to create a robust support network that not only helps survivors reclaim their lives but also fosters a renewed sense of hope and empowerment. Together, we are committed to ensuring that every survivor has access to the mentorship and resources they need to thrive.
